Isla Guadalupe - Great Whites
First stop on the trip - may as well jump in at the deep end!
London to San Diego : 14hrs of flights that took 22hrs (hurricane enforced delays)
San Diego to Ensenada : a 2hr coach trip across the Mexican border that took 3 hrs (customs checks)
Ensenada to Isla Guadalupe : a 24hr motor sail out into the Eastern Pacific, that only took 22hrs…..things were looking up!
Yes, it was worth it.
Yes the sharks were in situ.
Yes, they’re CLOSE and Yes, they’re BIG!!!
Extremely good idea to be in a cage. We saw males and small (!) females….the large females don’t come in to Guadalupe until later in the season. The sharks that posed for our photos are about 4-5m long with matching girth and even larger ‘presence’. The water is pretty cold anyway, but you still feel a chill when the great whites start circling!
We were on the Nautilus Explorer and definitely recommend it. Can’t wait to get back on board for the Socorro trip at the start of Nov. It’s a fully equipped professional set up with an excellent crew. Good size cabins, large lounge & larger dining area, big dive deck, plenty of room on the camera table. In fact, everything a shark diver needs!
